If you require fence posts, you will probably have to have your property surveyed to ensure you are getting the holes and posts in the right place. Remember, the cost of survey will be considerably less then the cost to move a fence. We recommend contacting the Alberta Land Surveyors’ Association to get complete information on guidelines. The optimal result is that by the time we come out to drill your holes, you have done all the ground work to identify exactly where the holes need to be.

You should also note that when building a fence, unless there was one there before, you will likely need a permit.  If you live in the city, you can find the information you need at Edmonton.ca/buildingafence.  Here you will get everything you need from the Zoning Bylaw regulations, the Construction Application form, and fees.  You can even apply for you fencing permit directly through this website.  If you are outside the city, you need to reference your local permits,  Here are permit links for surrounding municipal areas:

For pile holes, there is generally less need to worry about having a recent survey done.  However, permits may be required if you are pouring concrete for a foundation or are planning on building a deck or similar structure.  If you live in YEG, if the structure is less then 0.6 metres or 24 inches, you probably do not need a permit; however, we highly recommend you do your diligence before you dig any pilings for constructions.  Go to Edmonton.ca/buildingadeck for current information.

Call or Click Before You Dig

Whether we are drilling piles or fence posts with our bobcat auger, we have to make sure we aren’t damaging any utilities underground. The damage to essential utilities or injury to our crew, could be catastrophic. Plus of course the cost to repair would certainly be unplanned and unwanted. Alberta One-Call is the preferred service who communicates between the property owner or contractor on their behalf, and the utility operator who register the buried items.  It saves us all time if you have this done in advance of us coming out to do the work.

So the bottom line is the more you do before we come out, the better our result will be drilling you foundation or post holes. See our home page services to see all the ways we can help you with property needs.
