Yard Drainage

Yard drainage is the foundation on which every beautiful yard is based.  It is all about the right grade to ensure that water runoff is moving away from the house.  Whether it’s a new home or an older property that needs to regrade the yard, our skid-steer blades are the perfect tool to get in and design a slope which is right for your property. If there is water pooling anywhere in the yard, it doesn’t look good, it attracts mosquitoes, kills your grass area and can cause weakening or a leaking foundation.

Keys to proper grading are based on assessment and coming up with a grading or slope plan. The plan is really based on high and low points of your yard.  To do this properly, you should establish the “rise” and “run” of the earth. First establish the run which is basically the level distance from the highest point in an area. It is best to use a few stakes from the highest point to a reasonable surrounding area that you want to grade.  With some string and the stakes, create level lines from the highest point which is defined as the run.  The rise is the vertical distance, usually in inches, the ground is sloping from the run.  This can simply be measured with measuring tape in which all points in the area should have an increase rise depth down to the lowest point.

Although we can help with grading plan for your yard, you will get the most cost-effective benefit or our time by doing the grading with our skid steer and not spending too much time measuring.  The more you can do to establish the grading plan, the quicker we can get the work done.  And keep this in mind, it doesn’t have to be perfect.  With our 20 years experience, we know how to deliver a plan without a whole lot of detail.

Brush and Shrub Clearing

If you’re looking to landscape a property with brush and shrubs that you want to clear out, our skid steers are great at making easy work of this.  For most twigged areas, we can effectively clear it without too much problem.  If you are looking to clear trees, if they are small in diameter around 3 inches or less, it is typically no problem.  Any bigger and a more heavy-duty grader or bulldozer might be required.  Give us call or better yet, send us a picture and we can tell you quickly if we can help you or not.  And if we can’t, we know people with bigger equipment who probably can.

Material Hauling

Moving dirt is of course our number one use of skid steer services.  However, there is a whole lot more hauling we do to help make easy work of your yard landscaping.  For retaining walls, curbs, rock features or simply moving sod, using our skid steer makes easy work of what can be back breaking if you are doing it by hand. If we are coming to grade your yard, we suggest getting all you other materials ordered so that you can use our equipment to get the job done fast, with very little extra cost.  Planning and ordering is key.  And if you don’t know when to order your materials, give us a call and we give you our thoughts on how to get the most out of our service time when we come to do the work.  Check out our Rubbish Removal section for more information.
